Infantile Haemangioma
About: Infantile haemangioma, or strawberry birthmark, is one of
the most common vascular birthmarks. While most will resolve
spontaneously without needing treatment, some haemangiomas require further
investigations, treatments and a referral to a specialist centre to avoid
threatened complications such as permanent skin changes or blindness. They are
often a source of worry for parents and it is important to know how to diagnose
them, assess and when a specialist referral is required.
At the end of the module, you will be able to:
· Identify clinical features of an infantile haemangioma and the red flags for treatment and early referral
· Understand how to support parents with the diagnosis and management
· Be informed of the treatment options and when to use or refer for these
